Chloe Curry has won Miss Congeniality in a Lewis County, Washington beauty pageant. Ironically though, she has been arrested for shoplifting at a Walmart store. Chloe Curry and her friend have been arrested carrying more than $100 worth of stolen cosmetics.
A resident of Adna, Washington, police said that Curry and her teenage friend attempted to steal $100 worth of cosmetics including lip balm, nail polish, fake eyelashes, and fake nails from a Chehalis Washington outlet of Wal-Mart.
A Chehalis police report reads: Curry, 18, whose legal name is Chloe Reavis, was with a friend at the Wal-Mart on March 5 when they were spotted putting makeup into their purses by store security. The report states the two went to the checkout and paid for a small amount of food but not the makeup. They were detained by store employees and police were called. Both were arrested and cited for shoplifting.
According to KIRO TV, the arrest for shoplifting occurred 3 days before Chloe Curry took her "Miss Congeniality" award at the Miss Lewis County Scholarship Program on March 8.
It is ironic that the shoplifter who said "We thought we could get away with it" was even crowned Miss Congeniality. Chloe Curry won her title after doing a dance number. According to the contest website, her platform was a mocking "building positive self-image".
Chloe Curry received a $600 scholarship prize for winning the title. Fortunately for her, pageant rules won't allow the forfeit of the money even with a shoplifting case.
In a King 5 interview, the 18-year-old Curry said "It was a stupid mistake. We thought we could get away with it and we didn't."
Chloe Curry's lucky win was explained by the pageant organizers. The Chronicle reported that according to the organizers, Curry's arrest was unknown to them because she was charged under her legal name, Chloe Reavis. Fortunately for Curry, and unfortunately for the other pageant contestants, it's too late to take back the scholarship.
