Hampton, a small town in Florida, is likely to be erased on the map
An issue concerning the city's economic situation is now on the loose. According to previous reports, the town's 1 million US dollar revenue has gone into the pockets of city workers. The audit revealed a history of misused funds by said small town.
Many shocking truths have been discovered by investigators. They also found out that employees of said city have summed up 27,000 US dollars from the city's credit card yet no valid reason was presented. Police cars weren't even insured.
The small town of Hampton actually gained the magnificent amount of 600, 000 US dollars in fines from their issuance of tickets around 2010- 2012, but the money collected is nowhere to be found. The city that existed for so many years with a role of providing water to its residents and police protection said that they have no records of the water meter readings and that it was lost in a swamp wherein one of the water utility operators met an accident.
If those log books were present, it could have clarified why Hampton's elder-care centers haven't received a bill for seven years and why three city commissioners were unbilled for 17 months. Hampton is under a lot of pressure and is facing huge problems today. As a matter of fact, it was made even worse when the city's official mayor was sent to jail.
The supposed new mayor, Barry Moore, was sent to jail after allegedly trying to sell an oxycodone pill to an undercover officer. Moore filled the post as the city's mayor just last September which made him serve for two months before his arrest last Thanksgiving.
The city has exactly 30 days to plan and correct what was wrongly done or it will be erased from the map. The State Legislature will be voting to dissolve it and delivering the management of the city to Bradford County.
"This town has struggled financially for years and years," Mr. Mitzel, the city's former mayor said.
