Samsung Galaxy S5 Vs Apple iPhone 5S: Comparison Review of Best Specs, Features & More!

With the launching of the Samsung Galaxy S5, comes the major threat that the biggest rival of the Apple iPhone 5S is finally here. For one thing, the S5 and the 5S are mirror opposites of the other, but can the newest installment of the Samsung Galaxy S series really outshine the superb Apple iPhone 5S? How does one fare with the other? Let us take a look at the four-one-one of the best specs and features of the newly-launched Galaxy S5 and compare them with the goodies the iPhone 5S is packing.

Samsung Galaxy S5 over Apple iPhone 5S

The most obvious facet of the Samsung Galaxy S5 that stands out is its humungous screen. While this isn't something new to Samsung at all, it is note-worthy that the 5.1-inch screen of the Galaxy S5 is more remarkable than the 4-inch display of the Apple iPhone 5S. To be exact, the Samsung Galaxy S5 sports a Super AMOLED full HD 1920x1080 display with 415 ppi whereas the iPhone 5S sports a widescreen Retina and multi-touch 1136x640 display resolution with 326 pixel density. Needless to say, the display technology of the Galaxy S5 surpasses that of the iPhone 5S. But this isn't really that evident because of the smaller screen of the latter. However, the big difference could be seen when holding the devices alongside each other.

Storage is also another feature that gives the Samsung Galaxy S5 the upper hand. While the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes in two variants - 16GB and 32GB - and the Apple iPhone 5S in three variants - 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB - the Samsung device has the edge when it comes to extra storage. It has an expansion slot that can accommodate a microSD of up to 128GB. That alone speaks volumes if you are the type who likes to store numerous video, music and other files into your daily driver.

When it comes to camera technology, the Samsung Galaxy S5 continues to take the lead with its 16MP rear-facing snapper and 2MP front-facing camera. The Apple iPhone 5S, on the other hand, sports an 8MP rear camera and a 1.2MP FaceTime camera. Although quality-wise, photos taken by the Samsung Galaxy S5 are of superior quality, the numerous features of the iPhone 5 camera such as the True Tone flash, Backside illumination sensor, Five-elements lens, Hybrid IR filter and many more are still unbeatable in their own right.

Battery is never an issue with these two flagship devices, but we'd like to hand this round to the Samsung Galaxy S5, which sports a 2800mAh battery with standby time of 390 hrs and talk time of up to 21 hrs. On the other hand, Siliconangle reports that the lithium-ion battery of the Apple iPhone 5S is capable of up to 250 hrs of standby time and only 10 hrs of talk time.

Apple iPhone 5S over Samsung Galaxy S5

The Apple iPhone 5S has obviously created a new standard for high-end smartphones. And in terms of processors, it seems that it still remains to be the handset to beat. The iPhone 5S comes with Apple's A7 chip with 64-bit architecture that simply gives off unbeatable performance quality and speed. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is said to come with a 2.5Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Krait processor, which is also one of the most powerful if not the most powerful processors in an Android device.

Operating System-wise, the iOS 7 of the Apple iPhone 5S is more stable than the Android 4.4.2 Kitkat in the Samsung Galaxy S5. What's more is that the minimalist interface of the iPhone gives the over-all experience a boost and a fast-and-smooth feel all the same. In contrast, the Android software of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is barely recognizable with the major tweaks and changes the all-new TouchWiz UI brings.

Finally, although Samsung has made a smart move in joining the revolution of devices with fingerprint scanners, it is still undeniable that the Apple iPhone 5S is the reigning device in this technology. The TouchID fingerprint scanner of the iPhone 5S is much easier to use since it's incorporated into the home button of the device. On the other hand, the fingerprint scanner of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is extended to its screen. Using it requires a sliding motion of the fingertips, which is a bit inconvenient if one is holding the device with just one hand. What's more is that the TouchID scanner of the Apple iPhone 5S has a number of uses especially in making purchases and in accessing personal accounts.
