It may be hard to believe, but actress Kerry Washington isn't completely confident with her looks.
The 37-year-old face of Neutrogena opened up to DooBop for their beauty icon series. In the interview, she told stories of her experiencing "moments of insecurity", just like everyone else.
The Scandal star was eventually asked how she feels when people label her as perfect. The actress opposed the notion saying, "I think you're wrong! I think it looks that way. But the reality is we all have nerves...We all wonder at times 'What am I doing here? What is going on?' But if I said to myself I'm only going to show up, or speak or be visible when I'm perfect, I would never get out of bed."
Washington added, "I [show up] to be of service and to be used for something greater. It's about knowing what I am in this moment is what I need to be. And going for it.
She said that the imperfections turned out to be an actual gift.
In the interview, the actress also took care to attend to one of her biggest beauty risks to date. She said, "It took me forever to allow my makeup artist to do bright red lips! Sometimes it takes someone saying to you, 'Do you know how beautiful your lips are? You should try wearing red lipstick.'"
She said that we can learn how to embrace our own unique beauty by accepting and celebrating the uniqueness of our own gifts and have the confidence in them.
Despite not having full confidence with makeup choices, the beautiful actress admitted that she still finds reassurance in the unknown saying, "I gravitate towards things that scare me. I feel that's where I'll grow."
The actress is now 7 months pregnant and has recently thrown a baby shower with friends, family and co-stars in the form of a garden party at Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes' LA home.
