Harold Ramis is known as one of the most famous directors in Hollywood, and that is how he will be remembered as he passed away at the age of 69.
The famous comedy filmmaker is best known for directing films such as Groundhog Day and CaddyShack.
As he progressed in the industry, the film genius went on to write and create quite a few of the Ghostbusters films over the years.
Other creations that the director can boast of and has amassed over the years include direction for Analyze This, writing credits on National Lampoon's Animal House, Stripes and Ghostbusters.
A native of Chicago, Ramis has also worked in 2006 for a few episodes on The Office. Aside from that, he also tried his hand at acting and went with the role of Seth Rogen's father in the Judd Apatow hit, Knocked Up.
A jack of all trades, Ramis has saddened many personalities in Hollywood including Rainn Wilson who tweeted about the devastating news. In his Twitter account he said, "Was honored to have gotten to work with Harold Ramis, the Buddha of Comedy. Brilliant, humble, radiant. We've lost an icon #GroundhogDay."
Another tweet includes Tom Arnold's who said, "So sad about Harold Ramis. His work changed my life and inspired me and made me want to do what I do. Very nice man and a good neighbor too."
A statement reveals Ramis' death to be caused by complications related to autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis. The writer has reportedly suffered this condition for the past four years.
The statement added, "His creativity, compassion, intelligence, humor and spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him."
Before he died, Ramis lived with his wife Erica, sons Julian and Daniel, daughter Violet and two grandchildren.
