Want to go to the Magic Kingdom in Disney World? It's going to cost you a hefty fee.
The Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando was already the most expensive theme park, but it just got pricier. Starting on February 23, a one-day ticket for visitors ages 10 and up to the Magic Kingdom, costs $99. This is a $4 increase from the previous price, CNN reports.
The Magic Kingdom isn't the only park that got pricier. One-day tickets for Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios also increased by $4, bringing the price from $90 to $94. One way that park goers can earn a discount is by purchasing multi-day passes. Such passes can decrease the daily cost for visiting the parks.
"Our pricing reflects the high quality and breadth of experiences we offer and our ongoing commitment to investing in our parks," Kim Prunty, Walt Disney World spokeswoman, told CNN. "We offer a variety of ticket options that provide a great value, and find that most guests select multi-day tickets that offer additional savings."
Walt Disney Co, earned $12.3 billion in the quarter that ended on December 28, 2013, which was a 9 percent increase from the previous year. Of that, $3.6 billion came from the parks and resorts, which was a 6 percent increase from the previous year.
"Prices were raised less than a year ago, but for WDR (Walt Disney Resort) it's all about supply and demand," Deb Wills, editor-in-chief of AllEars.net, an unofficial Disney planning and fan site, said. Wills continued, "Attendance is going up, not down; so as long as people keep paying the prices, Disney (any business) will keep raising them."
The Disney price hike may spark hikes for other theme parks like Universal Studios. Last year, Universal Orlando Resort first broke the $90 mark for a single-day, single-park ticket by raising its price to $92. Just two weeks later, Disney raised its price from $89 to $95.
