A Hot Pockets Recall? Say it isn't so! Nestlé USA's Prepared Foods Division announced on Friday that it was voluntarily recalling some of its products including HOT POCKETS brand Philly Steak and Cheese in three different pack sizes and HOT POCKETS brand Croissant Crust Philly Steak and Cheese, in the two pack box.
The company said the recall is only limited to those two products, which were distributed across the nation. No other sizes or varieties of Hot Pockets are affected by the recall.
The company said it decided to recall some of its products following a recall that was announced last week by Rancho Feeding Corporation which affects many companies. Nestlé said it looked over its vendor records and determined that the Nestlé bran, Hot Pockets was impact by the Rancho meat recall.
The USDA says that no illnesses have been reported related to the Rancho Feeding Recall. The USDA had recalled more than 8.7 million pounds of meat from the Rancho Feeding Corporation because it "processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection."
Nestlé says it didn't purchase meat directly from Rancho, its procurement teams worked with its supply chain to determine whether any company in the chain may have purchased meat from Rancho at some time during 2013. Through the review, Nestle found that a small quantity of Rancho's meat was used at Nestlé's Chatsworth, California production operation, which specifically makes Hot Pockets. As a result, the affected batches of the two varieties that were affected were removed from the marketplace.
Nestle advises anyone who may have bought the affected batches of Philly Steak and Cheese Hot Pockets to not eat them, but rather, return them to where they bought them to get a full refund or contact Nestlé Consumer Services at (800) 392-4057.
