A Delta Air Lines flight was diverted on Friday due to a drunk unruly passenger.
Flight 1189 had left from Baltimore and was heading to Salt Lake City but it was diverted to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, due to an unruly woman who was bothering other passengers on board. She reportedly made sexual advances to other passengers. Members of the flight crew handcuffed the woman on board. Some of the incident was caught on camera by fellow passengers. The woman can be heard going on an explicit rant. She was also grabbing at people but no one was injured, the Star Tribune reports.
When the plane landed, it was met by police and the woman was removed. When the woman was removed by police, she remained calm and quiet.
The flight continued on to Salt Late City, Delta spokesman Eric Torberson told the Star Tribune. The name of the woman who was bothering the other passengers was not released. The woman was intoxicated and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center to be observed, Patrick Hogan, spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission said.
Since the incident occurred during the flight, any charges that may be pressed would have to be filed federally after referral to prosecutors, either by the FBI or Transportation Security Administration. It is not clear if the woman will face charges.
The number of unruly passengers seems to be increasing. Business Insider released a report on December saying that there was one unruly passenger for every 12,000 flights, according to the International Air Transport Association. This was a significant increase from 2007.
