The Travelers Today Vintage Guide To: The Best Vintage Clothes Shopping In Glasgow

A cutting-edge city with friendly residents and a sardonic vibe, Glasgow rivals London for the title of coolest residents and there are plenty of vintage stores for those looking for something a little bit different. For the best vintage shopping in Glasgow, you need to head out to the trendy West End. Here are some of the best vintage shopping experiences in Glasgow.

Circa Vintage (37 Ruthven Lane, off Byres Road)

Probably my favourite vintage shop in Glasgow, the stock manages to be cool, fresh and modern (think a Lana Del Rey vibe) without looking like you've stepped out of a time machine. The shop stocks beautiful silk evening dresses, cool leather jackets and pretty jewellery. Owner Sheila Murdoch has 20 years vintage experience and will always be happy to help if you have any questions. You can also buy online, if you don't live in Glasgow.

Saratoga Trunk (10 61 Hydepark St)

Scotland's biggest vintage store; if you have a day or five to go through the racks! Selling everything from Victorian props and jewellery to 1990s clothing, no store can rival Saratoga Trunk when it comes to sheer quantity and curiosities. You're encouraged to make an appointment, so give them a call before you go and they'll be able to help you. They are also the go-to costume supplier for Glasgow burlesque revue, Club Noir, the hire service is perfect if you're looking for something for a special occasion without commitment.

The Glasgow Vintage Co.

Another shop which manages to be fresh and unique, although the stock is generally a little more 'out there' than Circa. If you're looking for a really unusual jacket (with real shells sewn onto it, perhaps?), then this is the place to go. Their facebook page (which I've linked) is worth visiting, because you'll often get comments on the origin and history of clothes from customers who remembered them the first time around.

Vintage Guru (195 Byres Road)

With intimidatingly beautiful, but friendly staff, Vintage Guru have been dealing vintage for 15 years. With 150 new items added per day on average and a commitment to prices, this little store is well worth a visit. If you're looking for something specific, leave your details and they'll try to find it for you.
