When young allurer Bruno Mars took the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday, we couldn't agree on what we adored more: his all around musicianship, his voice or his golden blazer! We call it a tie.
Mars faced a wave of skepticism as the featured act of this year's show, for he has yet to hit his 'Terrible Thirties' and with predecessors who are decades older such as Prince and the Rolling Stones, he was under scrutiny's magnifying glass. Would he be able to step up to the plate and entertain an audience of roughly 100 million? The answer, turned out, was a strong yes.
The 28- year old singer commenced the show by having a children's chorus harmonize his verse from the song "Billionaire" before he jumped on stage for his drum solo. The Grammy winning artist for Best Pop Vocal Album created an atmosphere of intimacy in the arena despite its magnitude, and removed any cast of doubt once he stepped on screen dazzling in his gilded garment. He crooned his way into the viewers' hearts and managed to seamlessly incorporate the Red Hot Chili Peppers in his act. Sadly, there was no surprise Led Zeppelin song despite reports.
Concluding his performance with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mars finished up by paying respect to the esteemed military with a rendition of his song "Just The Way You Are." There was much deliberation as to how he won the Halftime gig and he certainly did ample to censor his critics. It is customary that Super Bowl performances are pro-bono. Artists do it for the exposé, and that has clearly paid off for Mars. The sales of his latest album "Unorthodox Jukebox" soared after he took the Super Bowl stage.
