Get ready to...sputter. It seems Zimmerman has found a way to remain in the public eye. This time he will be facing Rapper DMX in the boxing ring.
David Zimmerman admitted the 'celebrity match' was his own concoction. Boxing was a pastime, even before the 'incident', he told Radar Online. The 'incident', of course, was the encounter with teen Trayvon Martin that resulted in the fatal shooting that claimed Martin's life. Zimmerman was absolved of murder charges.
"A friend referred me to Damon and motivated me to get in shape again and meet my weight loss goals". Damon is Damon Feldman, owner of Celebrity Boxing and self-proclaimed opportunist; he rose to fame by creating these bizarre duels. DMX was chosen out of a staggering 15,000 applicants after Feldman issued the open challenge.
The rapper was quoted as saying "I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up." It turns out Zimmerman is a very talented man, he took advantage of his 'star power' back in December to auction a portrait on eBay for a little over $100,000 and is now delving into the world of sports. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to an animal rescue organization he told Radar Online.
Previously, Zimmerman has been under suspicion for promising to donate money to charity and later pocketing it. As it is expected, the public frowned upon such fight taking place because they feel it minimizes the memory of the life that was lost. Whilst the 43- year old rapper intends to be victorious, Zimmerman, 30 has been training for some time. According to TMZ the fight is contingent on funds so DMX isn't budging until he sees the money. No paperwork or official documents have been signed yet. The full details will be disclosed at a news conference next Wednesday.
