Starring as Erica Kane in the popular daytime drama All My Children, Susan Lucci now reveals that she was blindsided by the show. The 67-year-old actress played the lead role in show for more than 40 years and has since then become the most recognized soap opera characters of all time.
The actress revealed that she was surprised when she and the other cast members found out that the show was being cancelled and worried if she would "ever work again". She told in Oprah: Where Are They Now?, how she felt when she found out that the show was being cancelled back in 2011.
Lucci said, "I found out about the cancellation of 'All My Children' from ABC on the day it was announced, I found out just minutes before the public found out, before we all found out." She continued, "I was blindsided. I didn't see it coming."
According to Huffington Post reports, the actress went through a "period of uncertainty". After All My Children, she appeared in shows like Cleveland and Army Wives. Today Lucci has a permanent role in the hit Lifetime series Devious Maids and says that she is doing amazing. The actress has now found a way to reach success in a new genre.
Devious Maids is now about to begin its second season. It's a drama comedy daytime show where five housekeepers are "bonded together by their jobs, life struggles and the melodrmatic universe that engulfs their employers."
Lucci here plays Genevieve Delatour, a wealthy resident of Beverly Hills and the star says she has "been having the best time" with the role. Despite the big change from daytime to weekly shows, Lucci says she loves the show.
The change has been difficult and Susan Lucci was indeed taken off guard by the cancellation of the show that catapulted her career, but as of now, Lucci's career is still alive and kicking.
