Rome, capital of Italy (and the country of Romance!), is a gigantic city, so it would be futile trying to list every must-see attraction. With Valentine's Day coming up, however, and Rome being renowned for love since the days of Ancient Rome, I thought I'd take a look at the most romantic locations that Rome has to offer.
Old Rome is the city's renaissance centre and one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in the world. Granted, as the capital of Italy, the city itself is renowned for beauty, but Old Rome is 'Ancient Rome', with beautiful piazzes and little coffee shops like you see in the advertisements.
Sightseeing
The Pantheon is a must-see, a beautiful work of architecture, built in 27 BCE. The Pantheon is dedicated to all of the Roman gods and is still a fully-functioning Christian church today. When it's raining, you can see the rain pour through the hole in the top of the Pantheon, with a kind of melancholy beauty.
The fountains in the piazzas are another must-see, with their beautiful statues. The Crypta Balbi museum is well worth visiting, giving you an insight into Roman life through the ages
Food and Drink
Della Palma apparently has the best gelato in Rome and is located a couple of blocks north of The Pantheon. The Supperclub, also near The Pantheon, is an ideal place to try new foods, relax and have fun. Caffe Novecento is arguably the best cafe for coffee, cakes and sweets.
Madreperla is a classic little restaurant with a friendly and passionate owner and their chef uses classic Italian ingredients to create authentic, simple and delicious Italian cuisine.
Things To Do
Cooking Italian lets you try your hand at some authentic Italian cooking; truly a skill to take home to your loved one! If you're renting an apartment, you can have Emanuelle and her chefs come over and cook for you in your own apartment.
The Campo de' Fiori market has anything you could ever want from a market and is the perfect place to find little treasures. On a Sunday, the market is dedicated to clothing and other non-food vendors.
