Found dead in his Manhattan apartment this Sunday, reports now reveal that Philip Seymour Hoffman have recently split with long-time girlfriend Mimi O'Donell before his death.
Mimi O'Donell was reported to have been living in the apartment she and Hoffman shared on Jane Street, three streets away from the actor's residence in the Pickwick House building. The couple has three children are living with their mother at the apartment that costs about $4.4 million. O'Donell is a costume designer and the couple lasted for over 15 years.
Before Hoffman's body was actually found dead Sunday morning, O'Donell had already been struggling with rumours of his death which began to circulate by the end of last week. Reports from Showbiz Spy reveals that "Mimi already had a tough few days, after the recent hoax that claimed Philip had died.", and further adds, "She will have to stay strong for the sake of their kids."
At around 11:30 a.m., a friend of the actor's found him dead at his apartment's bathroom at Bethune Street. The friend who has found him discovered the death because Hoffman apparently failed to pick up his kids from his girlfriend's flat that day.
The 46-year-old's drug problems reportedly began after he graduated from the drama program in New York University in 1989. Many thought that the award-winning actor had been clean for several years now, until he was seen checking into rehab just last year after snorting on heroin.
Fans have taken to social media to pay their condolences to the actor's family and friends. The family of the actor has released a statement saying "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers."
