The recent Hunger Games cast Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday morning, according to police.
The 46-year old actor apparently died of a drug overdose. According to the police, Hoffman was found by a friend in his West Village apartment at 35 Bethune Street. It was around 11:30 a.m. that the body was found.
This is a developing story because as of the current moment, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still trying to determine the exact cause of the death. However, police reports believe that Hoffman seem to have died from drug overdose.
The New York Times was told by a law enforcement official that investigators found a syringe in the arm of the Oscar winner. The official said, "It's pretty apparent that it was an overdose, the syringe was in his arm." According to The Daily Beast, In the trash were also five empty envelopes of heroin and nearby were two full envelopes. Just last year, the actor had checked into rehab to undergo addiction treatment. Quote from an interview with 60 Minutes revealed that Hoffman would use anything he could get his hands on.
Hoffman graduated from the drama program in New Your University. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2005 for his role in the movie Capote. This has put him in the limelight as one of his generation's best actors. Other films which have garnered him critical acclaim were Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Almost Famous, Synecdoche, New York, The Big Lebowski, and recently, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire where he's playing one of its main characters, Plutarch Heavensbee.
His family has already expressed saying, "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers."
Famous actors, including many of the Hunger Games cast also expressed their deepest sympathies.
"Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family."
