Super Bowl 2014: TSA Provides Tips on Not What to Bring When Traveling to the Big Game

Super Bowl 2014 is here and with the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos playing in New Jersey, that means a lot of football fans will be traveling. To help travelers, the TSA posted some helpful tips that will make a flight easier.

In its blog, the TSA says thousands are expected to travel to and from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) this weekend for Super Bowl XLVIII. They say the busiest days will be Friday and Saturday. There is also expected to be a passenger increase at JFK and LGA.

As football fans head home, Monday is also expected to be a busy travel day. The TSA wants to assure travelers that they will be "operating on a 24/7 schedule so passengers can clear security and reach their gates as quickly and securely as possible." They're even bringing in an additional 200 TSA officers and are planning to open more security lanes at New York and New Jersey airports.

The TSA has a suggested list of items that football fans may want to bring but can't. They include:

Air Horns: These are prohibited in all luggage and it is a compressed can of air. The sound would probably shock passengers if it were to go off mid-flight.

Concealment flasks: Don't bother bringing those sneaky Binocular flasks, beer bellies, cell phone flasks, cane flasks, pen flasks, flip-flop flasks or other items. They are easily detected at the airport. The TSA suggests buying buying alcohol in New Jersey if you won't check it.

Propane tanks: We're not sure who would bring these, but as a compressed flammable gas, these are strictly prohibited on planes.

Gas heaters and stoves: Although popular for tailgating events, these items won't be allowed if gas can be smelled.

Food: Liquid items such as creamy dips and spreads, BBQ sauce, cheeses, peanut butter, salsa, jams, salad dressings, jellies, maple syrup, sauces, soups, wine, liquor and beer should be placed in checked luggage.

In addition to airports, the TSA will also be present at mass transportation areas. They will be conducting screenings at these areas as fans head to the game, so be sure to leave extra travel time.
