Failure to watch the Super Bowl may seem like sacrilege to many Americans. But in the era of television recording boxes, and the ability to check the score on your cell phone, passing on the big game might not be such a bad idea -- especially if it means no crowds and no traffic. Here are some suggestions for what to do while diehard NFL fans are huddled in their living rooms or in a nearby sports bar:
1. Go to the movies
Catch the latest Jennifer Lawrence flick and treat yourself to some buttery popcorn. Enjoy what's sure to be a relatively uncrowded moviegoing experience -- you might even get to keep your feet on the seatbacks in front of you.
2. Run some errands
Unless you're hitting the beer aisle at your local grocery store, likely nobody is going to be shopping on Super Bowl Sunday. So check some items off your to-do list and get your car washed, hem those pants you've had sitting in the back of your closet, or get a haircut.
3. Eat out at a new restaurant
Been wanting to try out that killer brunch place that always has an hour-long wait? Super Bowl Sunday is the perfect time to beat the crowd. Just make sure the eatery you choose is television-free!
4. Go on a day trip
Take a drive to the next town or head out on a hike and take advantage of the fact that many Americans aren't leaving the couch. You'll be amazed at what adventures are to be had without the stress of a crowded highway.
5. Curl up with a good book
For most working Americans, finding the time to read for fun can be next to impossible. Forgo the game on Super Bowl Sunday and finish that new thriller you've been aching to fully dive into. Reading not your thing? Enjoy a few hours doing your favorite relaxing hobby.
What are your plans for Super Bowl Sunday?
