A lottery winner who was turning his life around has been found stabbed to death. Ryan McKechnie's body was found by police in his house in Stirling, Scotland on Tuesday.
Police investigated his house after he hadn't been seen for three days and found the lottery winner lying with a multitude of stab wounds. The 31-year old dad of three had battled drug addiction but was starting to turn his life around and kick his addiction after winning £40,000 (around $100,000) on the Irish lottery late last year.
The kids' mum, Anne Marie, 29, died from a 'presumed-drug-related' death four years ago. She passed away only eight weeks after her youngest child, Michael, was born. Michael's brother Ryan, 8, and sister Shannon, 11, are being cared for by relatives. Their dad, Ryan, had been free of drugs for years, but relapsed when his mum died in September last year.
According to neighbours, Ryan's win attracted 'supposed mates', who took advantage of his good nature and used up most of his money. "Ryan was a great guy, who always spoke to you if you were pasiing in the street," said his neighbour, Kevin. "He loved his children."
Initial assesment from forensics suggest Ryan died in the house. Police are looking for anyone who has seen suspicious activity around Ryan's James Street home in Milton, near Stirling, or anyone with any information. Anyone who can help should call police on 101 (UK) or Crimestoppers (UK) on 0800 555 111.
