A drunk woman bit a flight attendant and kicked another in the testicles on an Air New Zealand flight to Bali.
Tara Anne MacKay, 28, had a little too much to drink on her August 17th flight with her partner. She proceeded to yell and scream loudly and spilled her drink. A nearby passenger felt threatened by her behavior so she left her sea and reported the woman to the cabin crew, the Otago Daily Times reports.
The flight attendants asked MacKay to calm down and follow them to the back of the plane but the woman refused and threw her drink at one of the female flight attendants. She then tried to push past the crew so she could return to her seat. A struggle followed which resulted in the drunken woman locking herself in the plane bathroom and refusing to come out.
The captain gave the crew permission to unlock the door and they physically tried to wrestle MacKay out of the bathroom.
The flight attendants eventually managed to restrain MacKay and secured her with handcuffs and a leg restraint. However, with her mouth still free, the woman managed to bite a female flight attendant, Susan Lawson-Hurst hard on the hand multiple times. She also kicked a male flight attendant in the testicles.
Lawson suffered from a swollen and bruised hand and may have had a hairline fracture.
MacKay appeared at Dunedin district Court and admitted to the assaulting the crew with intent to injure. However she couldn't recall some of the events. She said she would have behaved herself if the crew had just left her alone. She also admitted that she shouldn't have drunk so much alcohol.
MacKay was sentenced to 300 hours of community service plus 12 months of supervision. She also has to complete drug and alcohol counseling.
