What's meant to happen will happen. If you know deep inside you are meant to discover Scotland, 2014 is the perfect time to discover one of the most fantasized locations of European History. Mists and heather moors (muirs) beckon to the touch of mystery and cry of freedom inside us. Scotland holds the essence of primal man that speaks to even the most jaded of travelers.
Homecoming Scotland 2014 is a Scottish Government Initiative managed by EventScotland. Homecoming Scotland will be offering an entire year of notable events in addition to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, July 23-August 3, and The Ryder Cup, which Scotland will be hosting for the first time since 1973 at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, September 26-28, 2014.
What's better place to see Highland Games than in Scotland? Strathmore Highland Games are held June 8 at Glamis castle, Glamis, Forfar, Tayside. West of the town of Forfar, Glamis Castle, mentioned by Shakespeare in Macbeth as the location where Macbeth killed Duncan in 1040, is one of the top attractions in Scotland. The very old town of Forfar also has historical appeal with its ancient carved stones, local produce and famous pastry.
June 13-15, MCE British Superbikes, the largest competitive motor bike racing championship of the UK, returns to Dunfermline on the events 40th Anniversary. Dunfermline follows up on July 12 with The Official Scottish Motor Show.
These are just a few of the events planned throughout the year. Book festivals, Art festivals, Rock Skimming Championships, Classical Music...all guarantee you will find something exciting to see and do no matter what month you book your vacation.
A full list of events held throughout the year is available on the Visit Scotland website. A comprehensive search module helps travelers tailor a search to their interests and dates of travel. While planning your vacation, keep in mind high tourist season falls during the summer months from June through September, which reflects on the cost of airline tickets. If your budget is limited, the spring and fall make a perfect alternative.
While Scotland's Island neighbor, Ireland, brings thoughts of peaceful relaxation and gentle strolls to mind, thoughts of Scotland makes the heart beat as if to the sound of ancient drums and the feet of ancestors racing across the windswept scenery. There is an underlying wildness beckoning from even the edges of pristine golf courses and manicured lawns, calling you to venture out into the heartbeat of the country.
