It started off with throwing popcorn at each other and things took a darker turn for a man and his wife while watching "Lone Survivor".
71-year old retired Tampa police officer Curtis Reeves ended up shooting Chad and Nicole Oulson at the Grove 16 & CineBistro Cobb Theater, Wesley Chapel. The original story reports that Reeves and his wife became agitated when the Oulsons, the couple in front of them was using a cell phone before the movie began.
Charles Cumming, who was inside the theatre with his son for his birthday celebration recalls that Reeves and his wife took great issue upon the couple in front of them texting. They decided to confront them and both couples ended up arguing. Cumming recalls that he saw Reeves step out of the theatre, to which he thought will come back with a manager.
Afterwards, Cumming saw Reeves return to the theatre, looking upset and without a manager. The argument continued and the men raised their voices even higher. "Somebody throws popcorn. I'm not sure who threw the popcorn and then bang, he was shot," Cumming reports.
Nicole Oulson tried to block her husband from the bullet but ended up getting shot in the hand, with the bullet getting through to Chad. Cummings fell Chad's body on him and another patron, who claimed to be a nurse quickly approached to give the victim CPR while another man pulled the gun out of Reeve's hand and held on to the 71-year old shooter until authorities arrived.
Cobb Theatres issued a statement saying, "We are deeply saddened by the events that occurred earlier today, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. The theatre is currently closed, and we are actively working with the sheriff's office on this investigation. This was an isolated altercation between two guests that escalated unexpectedly. The safety, security and comfort of our guests and team members are always our top priorities, and we are truly heartbroken by this incident."
Chad Oulson died from the shooting while his wife was able to get out of the hospital with minor injuries.
