How to Eat Your Way in Turkey for 10 Turkish Lira (or Less!)

Turkey is a budget traveler's paradise. With the amount of diverse and affordable accommodations, tourist attractions and things to do, it's truly beyond a unique experience when you're in a place where East meets West.

Now when it comes to food, stretching one's Turkish Lira won't be a problem. In fact, with a few to spare, a hungry (adventurous) traveler can get tons of flavors to get through the day of explorations.

Here are some of the must-tries for only 10 Turkish Lira or less.

1. Baked potato

The suburban area of Turkey is one place tourists shouldn't pass up on. In fact on Sundays, the markets of Ortaköy are a sight to see. The only thing missing is a good grub to enjoy the view further.

For 7.50 TRY, tourists can have a big baked potato with butter and cheese. For 10 TRY, one big baked potato with everything on it. That's more than enough carbs to get anyone going until dinnertime.

2. Chicken döner kebab

The Grand Bazaar is one of the world's oldest and largest marketplaces. Getting lost here is as easy as getting hungry. Since Turkey is known best for the country's exceptional kebabs be it on the streets or in 5-star restaurants, then it is a must try for any hungry shopper.

Near the Sultanahmet side of the bazaar lies a small lunch bar where one can get a hefty chicken kebab for 6 TRY that comes with an unlimited salad to add to the roll of chicken one has.

3. Fish bread and pickles

Undoubtedly, Turkey is known for its cheap street food that is incomparable in taste. Fish bread is one of the most ancient and popular grub among locals, which is also very light in the pocket but filling in the tummy.

For 5 TRY, tourists can get a sandwich of fried fish (no breadcrumbs or batter) with onions and lettuce. They can also help themselves with the free lemon juice and salt set aside for them. To complete the experience, hail a boy selling those little red cups of pickles for only 1.50 TRY and it's a full meal altogether.
