CES: Pebble Announces Update To Popular Smartwatch

The Kickstarter success story, Pebble, announced a new addition to its smartwatch family today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), according to reports from IGN. This new rmodel will be the first following the release of the smartwatch last year.

The new model, called Pebble Steel, upgrades the plastic watch to stainless steel and adds new features, among other things. The watch will not only receive a new stainless steel body, but its face will also be fitted with Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened glass that can resist most types of damage.

Pebble also announced that Pebble Steel will have full functionality with Pebble apps which range from timers and countdowns, to live sports scores and even Twitter feeds. The watch's face will also support a Tricolor Led, as opposed to the monochrome face of the original Pebble smartwatch.

Pebble, which began as a Kickstarter project, has since taken off and seen success among tech connoisseurs and children alike. The watch also recently received an update that made it fully compatible with iOS 7 and greatly increased its functionality.

Pebble Steel is available for pre-order via the official Pebble website today for $249. Customers who take advantage of this surprise release early on will also receive free worldwide, expedited shipping.
