Apple iPad Air Vs LG Pad 8.3: Battle of Lightweight Tablets Spec, Features & More!

Apple may have already claimed that its iPad Air is the lightest tablet it has ever made. But at 478 grams, Apple's all-new iPad is relatively heavier compared to LG's G Pad 8.3, which way lighter at 338 grams. But when everything else is considered, does the LG G Pad 8.3 continue to outshine the iPad Air? Let us take a look at the four-one-one of these tablets to find out.

Apple iPad Air over LG G Pad 8.3

The first thing that you will notice when you put these two tablets side-by-side is the fact that Apple's iPad Air has a slightly bigger screen. The iPad Air comes with a 9.7" screen which has a much higher resolution at 2048 x 1536 pixels. On the other hand, the LG G Pad 8.3 has an 8.3" screen with 1920 x 1200 pixels screen resolution. Nevertheless, both tablets sport IPS LCD displays.

Additionally, looking at the width of these devices, you'll notice right away that the Apple iPad Air has a thinner build. Its width is only at 7.5 mm which is about 10% thinner than the 8.3 mm LG G Pad 8.3.

Technically speaking, Apple's all-new iPad and LG's breakthrough tablet sport very similar 5 MP shooters, we would like to hand it to Apple for incorporating the digital image stabilization technology on its tablet, which genuinely helps if not enhances the quality of captured videos. Other than that, we'd like to commend both companies for ensuring that the rear-facing cameras on these devices are capable of shooting 1080p HD at 30 fps videos.

Finally, when it comes to battery life, the iPad Air obviously beats LG's G Pad 8.3. The Apple iPad Air comes with an 8820 mAh battery while the other device has a 4600 mAh battery.

Although Apple proudly flaunts its A7 64-bit architecture which is obviously a big upgrade from its previous tablets, we'd like to commend LG for incorporating a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset and a quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. On the other hand, Apple's latest tablet only comes with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. Given its number of cores, the LG G Pad 8.3 can run twice as many applications smoothly compared to Apple's iPad Air.

We already commended Apple for its bigger screen size; however, we also would like to recognize the fact that LG G Pad 8.3 is a more compact device, one that is easy-to-carry and is quite the perfect gadget as one's daily driver.

When it comes to RAM, the LG G Pad 8.3 takes the lead with its 2GB RAM. Meanwhile, we are a bit disappointed by Apple's 1 GB. Remember, when your device has more RAM it means that it does a good job in running huge apps with lots of content.

And finally, the thing that gives the LG G Pad 8.3 an edge over Apple's iPad Air is its storage expansion feature. Yes! The G Pad 8.3 accommodates external memory storage of up to 64 GB. Hence, you don't need to worry if you need extra storage for all your files, videos, music, and more.
