This holiday season, many are contemplating on the idea of purchasing a new smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z1 are two of the best 5-inch smartphones launched this year; hence, they are also two of the best devices to choose from for the new year ahead. Thus, we give you this comparison review of these two-high end smartphones: Samsung's Galaxy S4 and Sony's Xperia Z1.
Samsung Galaxy S4 over Sony Xperia Z1
While the Galaxy S4 comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive screen that has 1080 x 1920 resolution with 441 ppi, Sony's Xperia Z1 flaunts a 5-inch 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution with the same 441 ppi. Now, we are not saying that one is superior than the other, but we are giving this round to Samsung since it is way lighter than the Xperia Z1, given its much relatively smaller dimensions and more compact design.
Another advantage of the Galaxy S4 over the Xperia Z1 is it comes in 16, 32, and 64 GB variants. Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia Z1 only comes in 16GB of internal storage. Nevertheless, both handsets can be expanded by up to 64GB through a MicroSD card.
Sony Xperia Z1 over Samsung Galaxy S4
The Sony Xperia Z1 comes with a Snapdragon 800 chipset and a 2.2 GHz quad core krait 400 processor. It also has an Adreno 330 graphics processor with 2GB of RAM. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a Snapdragon 600 chipset, quad core 1.9 GHz and krait 300 processor. It also has an Adreno 320 graphics processor with 2GB of RAM.
When it comes to camera technology, the Sony Xperia Z1 sports a 20.7 MP primary camera with LED flash and a 2MP front-facing shooter. Contrariwise, the Galaxy S4 comes with a less competitive 13MP rear camera and a similar 2MP front-facing shooter. Although the Galaxy S4 packs in a lot of features for its camera, the Sony Xperia Z1 makes up for its limited features when it comes to the quality of the photos. It takes high-quality pictures in both bright and dark places.
When it comes to battery life, it isn't that much of an issue when it comes to these two handsets. But of course it's just an issue of one lasting longer than the other. The Xperia Z1 has a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with 15 hours talk time and 110 hours music playback. On the contrary, Samsung's Galaxy S4 comes with a Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery with 17 hours talk time and 62 hours of music playback. The only advantage of the Sony handset is it can last for up to 35.4 days on stand-by mode while the Samsung device is built only to last 15.4 days on stand-by mode.
