3 Cheap & Cool Souvenirs to Bring Back from Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the land of the free. From the friendly locals to the exciting sights to see down to the unique experiences tourists could indulge in while in town, it's one place an avid traveler should visit.

Apart from the sights to see and things to do, Amsterdam is quipped with lovely souvenirs anyone can take back home. Especially now that it's the holiday season, consider the following finds in Amsterdam as Christmas presents.

1. Dutch birthday calendar

One of the must-haves when travelers come back from Amsterdam is a Dutch birthday calendar. They refer to it as a "Dutch thing to do" and the calendar allows one to list down all the birth dates of friends and family to put up at the back of the toilet door. Near Dam and Rokin, there are themed calendars tourists can easily choose from.

2. Dutch cheese, cookies and chocolates.

For an adventurous palate, no tourists should ever leave Amsterdam without tasting the town's cheese, chocolates and cookies. Gouda and Edam cheese are among the top and most popular cheese choices around but it wouldn't hurt trying the goat cheese and farm cheese.

No trip is also complete without trying the Dutch authentic, stroopwafel. It's an irresistible treat made of two waffle cookies smothered in syrup. Chocolate supply doesn't run out in Amsterdam, which is why tourists are encouraged to go around the different confectionery shops.

3. Dutch wooden shoes/clogs

These adorable pairs of shoes are the Dutch's very own. While modern day locals are not really seen wearing them, rural farmers are still seen wearing them as they are quite comfortable, durable and trusty especially if there are muddy areas involved.

Tourists can find these pairs in just about any souvenir shop hung on the walls or if they want the realest thing possible, they can go to Wooden Shoes & Gifts in the town of Amstelveen.

The shops also have a wooden slipper variety for those who wouldn't want to wear wooden clogs.
