Last week's Vampire Diaries season 5 episode 9 "The Cell" pretty much gave us an idea on what is in store for Elena (Nina Dobrev). Now that she's helpless and strapped down to the lab table of Dr. Wes Maxfield (Rick Cosnett), we can't help but feel sorry for her. However, this week's episode will give us more reason not to feel sorry for this girl rather we are going to go green in envy as the Salvatore brothers (Yes! The hot and steamy vampires) are going to team up just to save Elena from whatever twisted plan Dr. Maxfield is attempting to realize. And speaking of Dr. Maxfield, The CW is teasing fans through the official episode synopsis which states that Dr. M is releasing a "secret weapon," so what or who could this secret weapon be? Well, we have a strong hunch that it's Enzo, who can be seen also tied up to the table near Elena in a preview. Enzo is of course the "tortured figure from Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) past," so we won't be surprised if Damon will get the surprise of his life once he sees his old friend alive. And what role will his old friend take on in this new saga? Show executive producer Caroline Dries spoke on the issue recently and she revealed that "Enzo becomes the devil on Damon's shoulder and is the voice of temptation, so he does become a bit of a villain." Additionally, this week's show is going to present more revelations such as Dr. Maxfield's confession to Elena about the dark secrets of Whitmore College as well as his primary goal involving Elena's father, Grayson Gilbert. Dries even hinted about Elena's reaction when she finds out about her father's past. "She's kind of putting it together and it will emerge as, 'Oh, I thought that was one thing and looking through it in a different lens my childhood was actually different than I lived it,'" Dries told Tv Guide. "We get to learn more about Grayson's backstory." Meanwhile, although Stefan (Paul Wesley) will be teaming up with his brother in search for Elena, it seems that the young Salvatore is developing a strong connection for Katherine especially after that hot lip lock encounter last in episode 9.
