An American Airlines flight from Miami to Boston was forced to make an emergency landing in Orlando on Tuesday after the cockpit windshield cracked.
According to American Airlines spokeswoman Andrea, American Airlines Flight 160 had to make an unscheduled stop on Tuesday night after the double-paned windshield of the cockpit cracked while the Boeing 757 was mid-flight, The Associated Press reports. The crack was on the outer pane.
There were 156 passengers and six crew members on Flight 160. No one was injured as the plane landed without issue at Orlando International Airport.
The flight landed at around 10:30 p.m. The aircraft was taken out of service following the incident so that it could be repaired. The plane was directed to Gate 17 at the airport so passengers could get off. Meanwhile, the passengers were put on another flight to Boston.
"We do want our passengers to get to Boston this evening," Huguely said late Tuesday. "Tonight they had a bit of a detour, but they will make it to Boston."
The flight didn't leave until shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning. The plane landed in Boston at 2:25 a.m. Due to the delay, the 156 passengers didn't arrive until two and a half hours after their original scheduled landing on 11:50 p.m.
Huguely says it is rare for airplane windshields to crack. "It doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen on occasion," Huguely told AP. It is not clear what caused the windshield to crack in Tuesday's incident.
