BART Fatality: Teen Reportedly Commits Suicide In California Train Incident

A BART fatality, which involved a teen who committed suicide, closed a station and delayed service on Tuesday morning.

Fausto Delgado, a 16-year-old student from Richmond, California, reportedly died after being hit by a Bay Area Rapid Transit train on Tuesday morning. Delgado, a junior at El Cerrito High, was hit at about 5:15 p.m. It is believed the death was a suicide, ABC reports.

"He was very well-loved," Marin Trujillo, spokesman for the West Contra Costa Unified School District told SFGate. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. We're doing everything we can to make sure that the students get the help that they need, as well as the family."

Psychologists were providing help to students who needed it and were on hands for Delgado's three siblings who also attend the school.

The incident took place at the El Cerrito del Norte BART Station. The station remained closed for several hours. A bus service was set up to accommodate passengers until train service resumed after 8 a.m. There were slight delays of about five to 10 minutes early in the day. Normal service has since resumed.

The incident is still under investigation.

Two people died in similar incidents involving BART trains back in June. It is also believed that they committed suicide.
