McDonald's Bagged Coffee: Fast-Food Chain to Sell Coffee in Supermarkets

Love McDonald's coffee so much that you wish you could take it home? You might be able to soon!

The huge fast-food chain is going to start testing how well bagged coffee would see from the brand. It will test selling a variety of packaged ground and whole-bean coffee at supermarkets and other stores starting in 2014. The test will also include single-cup servings for Keurig lovers, the Associated Press reports.

"As you know, we are always looking at new and exciting ways to remain relevant to our customers and be where they need us to be... [But] we register a lot of trademarks. That's nothing new for us.," McDonald's spokesman Danya Proud said according to the Daily Meal.

McDonald's, an Oak Brook, Ill., company, did not reveal any other details at this time. Despite it just being a test, this isn't the first time McDonald's has sold coffee to be brewed at home. McDonald's started selling McCafe package coffee in Canada late last year. The bags of coffee weighed 12 ounces and cost about $7.
McDonald's is working with Kraft Foods Group Inc. to distribute the bagged coffee to stores. It is not clear how widespread the test will be or for how long it will continue.

McDonald's is joining other big company names that sell coffee to go, but coffee is their specialty, such as Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. Both companies sell their brand to go in their own stores and in supermarkets. According to the Daily Meal, the packaged coffee industry is not a bad way to go. The industry is worth about $5.6 billion and 56 percent of Americans claim that they buy their coffee in the supermarket.
