So the deep-fried Twinkie burger is a thing.
Philadelphia's PYT, which is home to the deep-fried lasagna burger and the bacon taco burger, just released its latest ridiculous sandwich creation.
The deep-fried Twinkie burger consists of a beef and pork belly patty topped with American cheese and crispy bacon, which are normal burger ingredients, but this burger doesn't consist of a normal bun. It is placed between two patties made with deep-fried Twinkies.
The amount of calories in a deep-fried Twinkie burger must be over the top, but PYT manager Malcom Kenyatta won't reveal exactly how many there are. "At PYT, we don't want to have those conversations (about calories). This is an escape," he told Fox.
The out-of-control creation costs $12 and will be on a special menu for one week as part of PYT's "burger of the week." The restaurant posted the burger to its Facebook page saying the Deep-Fried Twinkie Burger will be unleashed on an unsuspecting world...we are really sorry about this, but someone had to do it." The post was liked more than 177 times. PYT also mentioned that they were giving out the first 15 on the house.
"We had a friend leave some Twinkies with us on Sunday," said Sarah Brown, one of PYT's owners. "We were playing around with them and came up with the idea for the burger."
The burger is a combination of savory and sweet with the sweetness of the fried Twinkie and the saltiness of the pork and cheese in the patty.
Among some of PYT's other wild creations are the spaghetti bun burger, the Szechuan lamb burger and the Doh! Nut burger with donuts as the bun.
