Celine Dion Died? Singer Becomes Victim of Plane Crash Death Hoax

Celine Dion died. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the "My Heart Will Go On Singer" isn't dead. She's just the victim of an Internet death hoax. Celine Dion is just fine.

Rumors started swirling this week that the famous singer died. There seems to be several sources that were spreading the rumors. According to About.com, some messages appeared on Facebook from what is supposedly CNN and Fox. The FOX message reads "Her heart will go on? Celine Dion DIED! Watch the full video! Due to the graphic content of this video, please be advised 18+ only." The CNN message says "R.I.P. Celine Dion 1968-2013. Watch the exclusive video." About.com advises to not click these links and they are scams. About says the messages are from "a rogue app that requests access to members' profile information and permission to post on their behalf. If access is granted, the app reposts the "R.I.P. Celine Dion" blurb on the pages of everyone on that member's friend list."

An example of the death report reads, "(Hollywood Breaking News) - R.I.P Celine Dion At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (October 20, 2013), Celine Dion died in a plane crash. The culprit for the story is Global Associated, aka Mediafetcher. "Celine Dion presumed dead in private plane crash", Global claims that Celine died today at "Denver Peak-Regional Airport". A small private aircraft in distress ceased radio contact with the control tower and fell below radar frequency after reporting engine trouble and smoke in the cockpit."

Another report by Global Associated News says Dion died in a car crash. "Celine Dion died in a single vehicle crash on Route 80 between Morristown and Roswell. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics responding to the vehicle accident and was identified by photo ID found on his body. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident - October 27, 2013."

Celine Dion is not a he of course. That report is a fake as well. A message at the bottom of the site reads, "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! this story was dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."

The reports send Twitter into a frenzy with many users questioning and mourning the death. Some tweets include:

"My step dad just told me Celine Dion died in a plane crash... Is this true???"

"I need to ask the one and only! Question I'm hearing rumors that Celine Dion died in a plane crash??? True or false?"

"@celinedion there is a rumor that she died in a private plane crash and it says CNN. Its on Facebook."

Dion is not dead. She recently recorded a song with Ne-Yo. She will be releasing a new album soon.
