Plane Crash Arkansas: Couple Killed in Accident

A plane crash in Arkansas left a couple dead on Monday.

Ivan Williams, 63, and Adina Williams, 52, of Pryor were flying from Alabama to Claremore when the plane crashed in Arkansas, killing them both. The names of the victims have not been confirmed by authorities but family members confirmed the death to local media ClaremoreWorld.com reports.

The crash occurred 13 miles south of Huntsville, near Arkansas 23 and Madison County Road 5320. The crash was confirmed by the Civil Air Patrol's Oklahoma Wing headquarters which said the plane was found. The search for the plane was suspended on Monday night and resumed Tuesday morning. According to flight information, the 1997 Piper Saratoga plane left Sylacauga, Ala., just after 11 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Claremore about 2:50 p.m. However it never made it.

Air traffic control lost contact with the plane at around 2 p.m. on Monday. Flight Aware says that the plane descended 900 feet at around 2:06 p.m. and its speed increased from 138 mph to 180 while its direction changed from west to east.

There was light rain in the area at the time but it is not clear if weather played a role. Investigators are trying to determine the cause.

According to Claremore World, the Williams owned Williams Construction. The Pryor and Tulsa-based company provides industrial and heavy construction maintenance for major manufacturing industries.

Adina Williams was a longtime friend of State Sen. Rick Brinkley R-Owasso. He was shocked and saddened by the death. "They were special people," Brinkley told Claremore World. "Adina was so kind and loving. I'm just so sick for the family."

Others said that the couple did a lot for the community. "They did a lot of (good) things for people that nobody knew about," Barbara Hawkins, Pryor Chamber of Commerce president said. "They enjoyed life and their children." Among their contributions was a donation of the land where Centennial Park is located.
