Lamar Odom is dead. At least that's what Twitter is saying. However the former NBA star didn't die. He's just the victim of a Twitter death hoax.
Odom may have been having some trouble lately as he battles drug addiction and marital problems with wife, Khloe Kardashian. Yet some took it a step forward on Twitter and said that Odom died from a drug overdose on Monday. Being that no credible sources have confirmed this, it's safe to say that Lamar Odom is just fine.
It's not clear how the rumors started but some are pointing to Twitter user, @PolarBearNL, or Mario, as many reference him in their tweets about Odom being dead. @PolarBearNL's profile says "RIP Lamar Odom.. smh." He released a series of tweets trying to convince others, saying:
"I was just playing last time... Thats crazy... I think i jinxed him #RIPLamarOdom,"
"@RealLamarOdom i don't believe it .. Please @ me so i know you still alive.. This can't be real ..smh,"
"Make sure y'all pray for Lamar Odom.. And that he makes it safe to Heaven,"
He then tried to say that Odom wasn't quite dead yet. He posted a photo of Odom connected to tubes in a medical office and says "I hope you pull through big guy pic.twitter.com/Zh0u95AuMc." He also said, "Critical condition with a 28% morality rate... Might as well already be dead #RIPLamarOdon"
The user seems to be getting a kick out of people continuously spreading the rumor as he retweets other users also saying that Odom died. He's playing right into the minds of the naive. Before he went on the rant about Odom's death, he says, "Twitter peasants so gullible."
The rumor may have also sparked from a real TMZ report in which a source says Kardashian is afraid to file for divorce from Odom because she thinks he'll kill himself or will die from a real overdose.
