Troubled Royal Princess Cruise Ship to Resume Sailing on September 27

The Royal Princess will sail on. Despite facing a brief power outage and having to cancel the rest of the last sailing, Princess Cruises announced that the ship will continue on with its planned sailing from Barcelona on Sept. 27.

On Sunday, the Royal Princess lost power for three and a half hours, leaving the ship with limited services. The new ship, which had 3,594 passengers and 1,336 crew was on the seventh day of a 12-day trip from Venice when the incident occurred. A back-up generator had to be used to keep the toilets running, USA Today reports.

The cruise had to end when it reached the port in Naples on Tuesday as repairs need to be made. The cruise line says it will fix the problem as the ship makes its way to Barcelona for the next sailing.

The passengers on the cancelled cruise were offered a full refund and a 25 percent discount on a future Princess cruise. The cruise line also helped passengers make flight arrangements to get home from Naples.

"We have appreciated our passengers' patience and understanding as they've waited to receive their onward travel details being arranged by our shore team. Again, we are sincerely sorry for this unexpected disruption to their vacation," the line said in a statement according to USA Today.

This incident is just the latest to scar the cruise industry after a series of mechanical issues left ships stranded and the Costa Concordia ran aground in early 2012.

The Royal Princess is a new ship that was just christened by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge in June.

The Barcelona trip is set to leave at 7 p.m. on Friday night for a 12-day trip to Venice.
