An American Airlines flight had to be evacuated after a passenger walked off of the flight at Lindbergh Field.
On Sunday morning, the San Diego Harbor Police received a call from the American Airlines flight crew that a passenger walked off the flight shortly after boarding at about 7:50 p.m. The passenger was a foreign national from Iraq. American Airlines Flight 66 was heading from California to John F. Kennedy airport in New York City, NBC San Diego reports.
Police officers evacuated the flight and police dogs were brought onboard to search the plane for anything suspicious. However nothing suspicious was found and witnesses said the man who left didn't bring any carry-on luggage on the flight.
Lindbergh Field airport officials said the flight was delayed for about an hour before it was given security clearance and took off. There was a brief delay of other flights at the airport as well.
It is not clear where the man went or why he left the flight but Harbor Police say the FBI and the TSA will try to track down the man to find out why he got off the plane and left the airport.
Some commented on the story by NBC San Diego, saying that the man may have had anxiety and chose to leave the flight. Others criticized the airport workers for not having someone stop the man at the gate and question him as he walked off.
