A man in Zimbabwe got a fright when he woke up to find an eight-foot-long crocodile under his bed, according to ABC News.
Guy Whittall heard a maid scream in his room at the Humani Ranch when she saw the reptile. Whittall, 40, had been able to sleep through the entire night, and get out of bed and begin eating his breakfast, unaware that a crocodile had made its own bed underneath his.
"The really disconcerting thing about the whole episode is the fact that I was sitting on the edge of the bed that morning, barefoot and just centimeters away from the croc," Whittall told the Telegraph.
Whittall had slept for more than eight hours in the low-lying style bed without any knowledge there was a crocodile underneath, according to the Caters News Agency.
Animal control workers were called. They were able, using a team, to rope and drag the crocodile, which was estimated to weigh approximately 330-pounds, back outside and into the wild.
"Catching and securing a croc of any size on land, though, is a fairly straightforward affair and we are experienced in that," Whittall said. "The most important thing is to get its snout roped and secured, and then it's just a matter of restraining it and covering its eyes, to calm it down. They released the crocodile into Chigwidi dam.
"I just remember thinking, goodness gracious, that's one for the books," he said. "I'm pretty sure everyone in Humani checks under their bed before going to sleep now, anyway."
The crocodile is thought to have wandered in from the Turgwe River, which is located over a mile away from the ranch.
"They often wander about the bush, especially when it's cold and raining," Whittall said. "I think he liked it under the bed because it was warm."
