Several Passengers Fall Sick on Lufthansa Flight to Chicago

Several passenger fell sick of a flight from Germany to Chicago on Saturday night.

Lufthansa Flight 432 seemed to have several problems. The flight from Frankfurt to Chicago O'Hare Airport was carrying 309 people. At first, the flight was forced to make an emergency landing in London because a sick passenger suffered a heart attack and had to be take to a local hospital, airline spokesman Nils Haupt told CBS.

The Boeing 747 plane left London and continued to Chicago after dropping off the sick passenger, but five other passengers also became sick on the second leg of the trip. However those illnesses are not related to the passenger that suffered a heart attack. There were some reports of cabin pressure affecting passengers but Haupt could not confirm this and he did not know the exact cause of the illnesses.

There happened to be three doctors on board the flight who took care of the sick passenger until the plane could land in Chicago. One of the ill passengers was treated at the airport. None of the passengers were seriously ill but they did have heart related issues.

Officials from the Chicago Fire Department took two of the passengers to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center for treatment for nausea. Both patients were in good condition.

The cause of the illness is still not clear but Haupt said it wasn't related to the aircraft or the airline, so the sick passengers will not receive compensation.

The same plane was cleared to return to Frankfurt at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday after the medical box that was used by the onboard doctors was refilled.
