Looking for a hotel deal? You likely won't find one in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian city tops the list as the world's most expensive destination for hotel rooms at an average of $312 per night according to Hotels.com
Hotels.com released its latest Hotel Price Index which ranks the prices that guests pay for hotel rooms around the world, News.com.au reports.
Rio came in at the top after facing a three percent increase from last year. It was followed by New York with an average price of $277 per night, an increase of two percent from last year. Geneva came in third with an average price of $259, which was actually a three percent drop from last year.
The average price for hotels room rose by about 2 percent around the world for the first half of 2013.
"While many of our favorite destinations are some of the world's most expensive, there are still hundreds of holiday hot spots around the globe that currently offer incredible value for money," Hotels.com spokeswoman Katherine Cole said. "Travellers looking for value just need to be smart and do their research."
The cheapest hotel cities on the list include Phnom Penh ($65 per night), Siem Reap ($66), Hanoi ($73) and Cebu, Philippines (also $73).
