Snake in Starbucks? Man Makes Creepy Discovery in Bathroom

A snake in Starbucks? Now that's not something you want in your grande latte, but a man had the unpleasant surprise of finding the animal in a Texas Starbucks bathroom.

Bruce Ahlswede was shocked when he walked into the bathroom of a San Antonio Starbucks, after stopping there following a business presentation on Tuesday afternoon, KSAT reports.

The man froze upon seeing the animal lying across the toilet seat. At first he thought it was just a toy left as a prank. Then it started to move.

Ahlswede quickly backed up out of the bathroom and alerted a store employee.

"I said 'Hey you've got a snake in your bathroom and she's kind of freaking out,' " Ahlswede told CNN affiliate KSAT. Ahleswede, his wife and Starbucks employees gathered into the bathroom and watched the snake slither around the toilet bowl and then disappear. However Ahlswede's wife, Michele, got a chance to take a photo before it got away. She posted the photo to Facebook to share with her friends.

"It had to have crawled up the pipes," Michele wrote."I have heard of it happening but have never seen it in person. Its a python guess he like coffee also."

A snake expert told KSAT that the snake was likely a non-poisonous rat snake. Rat snakes look similar to pythons and can reach up to seven feet in length. They are not threatening to people.

"A lot of people were really freaked out and some said 'thanks a lot," Michelle Ahlswede told KSAT.

The store contacted the South Texas Herpetology Association which went to the store and confirmed that the area was safe even though the snake wasn't caught,

The Ahlswede's says they'll still come back to the Starbucks despite the snake incident, but Michele says she'll be sure to double-check the toilet every time.
