A body was found near Castaic Lake on Wednesday, which has authorities baffled as the area is where authorities have been on the search for a missing 19-year-old man. It is not clear if the body, which was left burning, is of the boy they've been looking for.
Firefighters responded to a call of a brush fire on Wednesday morning about three miles north of Lake Hughes Road. The fire crews arrived within 18 minutes and were surprised to find a body among the blaze, the Los Angeles Times reports.
"We got there and it was what appeared to be a body," Los Angeles County fire supervisor Bernard Peters told the Los Angeles Times. The person was pronounced dead.
"We have no idea who this is," said L.A. County sheriff's Sgt. Rich Nagler. "We are waiting for homicide [detectives] and the coroner's to arrive."
Authorities have been on the search for 19-year-old Bryce Laspisa since Friday, when his pickup truck was involved in an accident near Castaic Lake.
The young man was driving a 2003 Toyota Highlander. The vehicle was found on its side on Friday morning near the lake, however Laspisa called his parents several hours later from Buttonwillow in Kern County. Yet he has been missing ever since. He lives in Placer County but was driving to Orange County to visit his parents when the accident occurred.
Authorities searched the area on Tuesday with helicopters and search dogs. Rescue divers were also called to search Castaic Lake for any evidence that might explain where Laspisa went.
The young man is white and has red hair and blue eyes. He is 5-feet-11 and weighs 170 pounds. He also has a tattoo of a bull's head with a Roman numeral on his left shoulder. He was last wearing white cargo shorts, a blue-and-white checkered shirt and white-and-red Nike shoes. Those with any information relating to the case can call Det. Chris Carns at (323) 890-5500.
