A teen was arrested in Oregon after police say that he was tampering with a plane bathroom mid-flight.
The 17-year-old was taken into custody Eugene Airport tarmac Monday morning after he touched one of the panels inside a plane bathroom. Eugene Police were called to the airport at around 10:30 a.m. on Monday in response to the incident. The pilot of the Allegiant Airlines flight had reported that one of the passengers had messed with the panel inside the plane lavatory, KVAL reports.
"(He) had tampered with some panels in the lavatory, so we wanted to have the police come in and check that out," Deputy Airport Director Cathryn Stephens told KVAL.
The police officers boarded the flight and escorted the 17-year-old male passenger off to be questioned. According to Stephens, the student was eventually transferred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's custody.
The other passengers were kept on the plane for 45 minutes as they were questioned by police who were trying to get information about what had happened.
The teen was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree disorderly conduct by the Eugene Police. Airport officials said that the teen was released as he has mental health issues. He was picked up by his counselor.
