A JetBlue flight from California to New York was forced to divert and make an emergency landing in Denver on Friday after a drunk man was being unruly and trying to fondle women sitting on the plane.
Gregory Meyer, age 47, of Studio City, Calif., was arrested when the flight landed in Denver and was scheduled to appear in federal court on Friday afternoon after being charged on two counts of assault. He is expected to be released on bail, the Denver Channel reports.
Meyer was on JetBlue Flight 358 from Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, Calif., to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City when the pilot decided to divert the flight to Denver due to Meyer's behavior. The Denver police met the plane at the airport and Meyer was placed in federal custody and taken to Denver city jail.
According to the U.S. attorney general, Meyer reeked of alcohol and was being loud when he boarded the flight. The flight took off, but the odd behavior continued as he went on to stoke a female passenger's arm, grab her waist and tried to grab her hand. The woman was sitting next to Meyer but she was across the aisle.
Meyer also grabbed another female passenger's head. She was seated in front of him.
Flight attendants claim that they didn't serve Meyer any alcohol because they could tell he was drunk from the vodka that he brought on board. He also refused to listen to their instructions.
It was later discovered by law enforcement that Meyer took an Ambien sleeping pill. He now faces up to six months in prison and up to a $5,000 fine per count.
The case is being investigated by the FBI with help of the Denver Police Department.
