While smoking rules are becoming tighter for Disney cruise ships, the dress code is becoming more relaxed.
Disney Cruise Line has lifted the ban on shorts in the main dining room of its four ships. Shorts can been banned from the dining areas since the cruise line started in 1998, USA Today reports.
The Disney Cruise Line website still says that shorts are prohibited but a spokeswoman told USA Today that the site is incorrect and will soon be changed.
The new dress code rule applies to the three main restaurants on each of the Disney ships, including Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream. A majority of these passengers use these dining rooms in the evening.
However shorts won't be allowed in every dining spot. There is still a strict dress code in which shorts are forbidden at Palo, the small extra-charge, adults-only Italian restaurant on each Disney ship. Remy, an upscale French restaurant on the cruise line's newest ships, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, will also remain shorts free.
For those dining at Remy, dress pants, shirts and jackets must be worn by men but jackets are optional at Palo. Women can wear a cocktail dress, pantsuit or skirt and blouse at Remy but they must wear a dress or pantsuit at Palo.
These rules come as Disney has made smoking rules tighter. Passengers are no longer allowed to smoke on cabin balconies. This includes e-cigarettes. Anyone caught disobeying the rule will be hit with a $250 fine.
