Crystal Cruises to Become First on Sea With Special Cabins for Allergy Sufferers

The first cruise cabins created for allergy sufferers are coming to the sea. Crystal Cruises announced that they will be bringing hypoallergenic rooms to a cruise ship.

Crystal Cruises, a two-ship luxury line, will convert 70 cabins on the Crystal Serenity cruise ship into purified, anti-allergy rooms while the ship is in dry dock in November.

In partnership with PURE Marine Solutions, sister company of leading allergy-friendly hospitality innovator PURE Global, 70 of the "AA" verandah rooms will undergo a seven-step air and surface purification process to remove allergens and reduce the risk of common irritants. As part of the process, an air purifier will filter out 99.9 percent of the impurities and dust in the rooms.

PURE hypoallergenic rooms are usually priced higher at hotels such as the SLS Beverly Hills, Park Hyatt Toronto, and Fairmont Chicago, but Crystal Cruise line says their Deluxe PURE Staterooms will be available to guests at standard prices. These rooms will start becoming available on November 27.

"Imagine returning to your room after a full day ashore in a bustling city like Rome or Bangkok, and then slipping into your purified sanctuary of ultra-clean air and hypoallergenic bedding," says Jack Anderson, Crystal's senior vice president, marketing & sales. "For guests who suffer from allergies, have mild respiratory issues such as asthma, or who simply desire a respite from the air quality in many cities, these staterooms will become a haven of fresh air - for no additional cost."

The PURE process will be done in two phases. The first phase include disinfection and the second phase will include prevention and maintenance. The rooms will include bacteriostatic barriers placed on things like light switches and TV screens, air purifiers and allergy-friendly bedding.

Crystal Cruises promises that these rooms will provide guests with relief from allergies, more sound sleep, fresh air to breathe and a room without chemicals or foul odors.
