American Airlines and US Airways are going to fight for the American-US merger to happen, despite the Department of Justice filing a lawsuit in an attempt to block the proposed merger. AMR Corportation, the parent company of American Airline and US Airways Group is going to put up a vigorous and strong defense in the lawsuit.
"We believe that the DOJ is wrong in its assessment of our merger. Integrating the complementary networks of American and US Airways to benefit passengers is the motivation for bringing these airlines together. Blocking this procompetitive merger will deny customers access to a broader airline network that gives them more choices," the airline announced in a statement.
"Further, this merger provides the best outcome for AMR's restructuring. The widespread support from the employees and financial stakeholders of both airlines underscores the fact that this is the best path forward for both airlines and the customers and communities we serve."
The airline claims that several benefits will come out of the merger. They say the merger will promote competitiveness. With more than 6,700 daily flights to 336 destinations in 56 countries around the world, the new American Airlines will offer more choices to customers and will be a highly competitive alternative to other domestic and global carriers.
The airlines say that employees will benefit as there will be more opportunities for them and there will be a higher chance of improved compensation and benefits for employees. They say that customers will benefit as there will be new flying options, more choices, increased service and an enhanced travel experience.
Both the boards of directors for AMR and US Airways have approved the merger and want to follow through with it and they;re willing to fight to make it happen.
"We will mount a vigorous defense and pursue all legal options in order to achieve this merger and deliver the benefits of the new American to our customers and communities as soon as possible," a statement from the airlines said.
