Two airline passengers weren't too happy with being flirted with by a flight attendant. The airline wasn't too happy with them either. The men were kicked off of a plane for complaining about a flight attendant that was being too flirty.
The men were supposed to fly on a Saudi Airlines flight from Riyadh to Jeddah last week, but after complaining, they weren't allowed to fly, Saudi newspaper Sabq reported.
A Muslim cleric, Khaled bin Abdulrahman al-Mahyzaa, claims that the flight attendant was being too flirtatious and she was "showing little respect for traditional customs" by flirting with a foreigner. Gulf Arab societies take modesty seriously.
The flight attendant allegedly called the man "habibi," which is an Arabic term of endearment which can be translated as "my love" or "darling." The term can also be sarcastic and can be used to mock someone.
Mahyzaa and another passenger who happened to be a police officer, confronted the woman and told her she was being inappropriate by speaking to them that way. The flight attendant didn't take it well and responded angrily.
The men were escorted off the plane by security officials and the flight was delayed for more than an hour. It is not clear why the men were taken off the flight. Police and the Saudi Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution are investigating the incident. Mahyzaa has asked that the investigators hold the flight attendant accountable for violating traditional customs and insulting both him and the police officer.
