The Curtis Hotel in downtown Denver is offering, for a short time, a package which has a one-night stay in a pop-up, inflatable room that is 22 feet in the air. The package goes for a whopping $50,000.
"Architect Alex Schweder created the 5-foot-by-7-foot, see-through room atop a van for the Biennial of the Americas festival of arts, culture and ideas in Denver. It has a chemical toilet, shower, sink, inflatable bed and couch, and curtains. It is being driven to parking lots around town through Aug. 23," reported the AP.
Shcweder said to the AP that the room is very small but very special. "You're always on the top floor," he said.
The Curtis Hotel sponsored the piece and is offering the room, which is called "the hotel rehearsal."
The property's website says about the hotel, "You don't just stay at The Curtis, you experience it! From the minute you walk through our lobby doors, you are immersed in the best pop-culture a Denver hotel can offer. You'll find cartoons playing in our lobby and a Five & Dime filled with treats from the past. Each of our guest room floors has a personality all its own and every detail has been 'revved up' to create a boutique, one-of-a-kind downtown Denver Colorado hotel experience."
For the price of $50,000 guests would get one weekend night in the space plus extras such as diamond earrings, a diamond pendant, two iPod Nanos and a dance party for 100 people in the ballroom of the hotel. There's no alcohol allowed inside the room and it has a weight limit of 450 pounds.
"At least one person has inquired about the room, said Kate Thompson, sales director at the Curtis. Schweder said much of the $50,000 will go toward insurance, but customers also will be supporting the future of the Biennial of the Americas," reported The AP.
