TSA Fashion Police: Security Confiscates Shoes With Replica Gun Heels at LaGuardia

The TSA is now the fashion police. The Transportation Security Administration recently confiscated a pair of shoes from a woman because they looked like poorly disguised guns. Not only does the TSA make people remove their shoes, they also take them if they're not acceptable footwear.

The woman was not a threat. Instead she was just trying to make a fashion statement, but the TSA was not going to let the heels fly. Guns aren't allowed on planes of course and neither is anything that looks like a gun. A woman had black pumps which had replica guns as the heels as she passed through LaGuardia airport. A TSA public affairs tweeted a photo of the shoes and said "Also, what not to wear through a #LGA checkpoint."

It isn't clear where the woman was going in her replica gun heels from the New York City airport, but she wasn't arrested for the shoes as she voluntarily surrendered them upon the TSA's request. No report was taken.

The heels were also posted in a section of the TSA blog under unusual items that were confiscated. Also among these was a belt that contained replica bullets. The TSA just recently launched an Instagram account to document some of their confiscated items and to remind people what not to bring on a plane.

"The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) uses a variety of ways to engage with the traveling public in order to provide timely information that assists them in traveling safely," the TSA said in a statement to ABC when they launched the Instagram account.

According to the agency's blog, which is followed by 49,000, 49 real guns were confiscated last week. Travelers can bring guns on planes, but they must be declared to the airline and placed in checked luggage.

While you can't wear them on a plane, you can get a pair of gun heels for yourself. A quick Google search will give you results from several stores. They range in price from $60 to 125.
