Throwing water at your flight crew is probably not a good idea. A London-bound Air Canada flight from Vancouver had to divert to Nova Scotia on Monday due to an unruly passenger who was throwing water around, six hours into the flight.
A 51-year-old Vancouver man was acting very strangely on board an Air Canada flight. He started making threats against the crew when flight attendants tried to calm him down and then started dousing the crew and passengers with water Cpl. Scott MacRae of the Halifax Royal Canadian Mounted Police told CBC News.
The flight may have been Air Canada Flight 854 was FlightAware.com says that plane had just cleared the coastline and was flying over the Atlantic when the Boeing 777 had to divert to Halifax.
According to MacRae, the police received a call about the troubling passenger at 4:20 a.m. local. The passenger was removed from the plane when the plane landed at around 5:10 a.m. The Canadian Press reports that he was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated for mental health problems.
"It's not common, but it's certainly not uncommon," MacRae told the CBC about the diversion. "When this happens, it causes a lot of inconvenience for passengers, costs are incurred by airlines, and [there's] a disruption, of course, at our airports."
The plane was delayed at the airport for about an hour at Halifax before it continued on to London. It landed five hours later than it was supposed to.
The Chronicle-Herland of Halifax reports that police were still trying to decide on Tuesday if charges will be brought against the man.
This isn't the first time a flight was diverted due to an unruly passenger. Recently, a flight had to land because a woman wouldn't stop singing "I Will Always Love You."
